One person shot at University Park Mall

One person was injured in a shooting at University Park Mall in Mishawaka.

The shooting happened around 12:15 p.m. on Saturday, May 22, according to  St. Joseph County Dispatch.

As many as 8 or 9 shots were believed to have been fired in the parking lot outside of the food court entrance, according to sources close to the investigation.

According to witnesses at the scene, the victim may have walked into the food court after being shot to get help.

The male was taken to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

The suspected shooter left the scene in a white SUV.

The entrance to the food court was blocked by Mishawaka Police and St. Joseph County Police for the ongoing investigation.

Authorities also asked that customers avoid the entrance near Sears.

The mall remained open for business, though by 4 p.m. a number of stores had decided to close for the day.

Anybody with information about the shooting or who may have witnessed it is asked to contact the Mishawaka Police Department Detective Bureau at 574-253-1678.
