Former Mayor of Elkhart, Dave Miller, passed away on Sunday, May 23, following a battle with COVID-19 at Elkhart General Hospital.

Miller had spent several weeks in the hospital, initially on a ventilator and later on life support. Social media posts from his family following his passing thanked the community for their continued prayers during his stay.

Miller was Mayor of Elkhart from 2000-2007, and decided not to run for a third term that final year. His administration was key in beginning to rebuild and rebrand what was then The Elco back into The Lerner. He also made way for the construction of the Wellfield Botanical Gardens. He was also the first Mayor to seek accreditation for the city’s police department. He ran for Mayor of Elkhart again in 2019.

Current Elkhart Mayor Rod Roberson offered the following statement:

“I am deeply saddened to hear of the passing of Elkhart’s former mayor Dave Miller. I had been following his progress and remained hopeful for his recovery.

Personally, my wife, Regina and I are praying for and with the entire Miller family. On behalf of the City of Elkhart, I express my condolences to his wife, Connie, and the entire family. We are so grateful for Dave and his years of dedicated service to this city and the entire Elkhart community.”

No arrangements have been announced by the family as of Monday morning.
