An alcohol-fueled fight in Cass County ended with a father suspected of shooting his son.

It happened around 9:30 p.m. on Wednesday, May 26, in the 11000 block of Van Buren Street in Marcellus Township. The 55-year-old father and 29-year-old son had been drinking, according to the Cass County Sheriff’s Office.

The son had the gun on his side in a holster and investigators say the father was able to disarm him and throw the firearm to the side. But they say the son came back to assault his dad, who allegedly grabbed the gun and shot his son in the head.

The father was treated for injuries and released from the hospital.

The son was airlifted to South Bend Memorial Hospital in critical condition.

The case remains under investigation and will be forwarded to the Prosecutor’s Office to review for possible charges.
