A 48-year-old South Bend woman was killed after being ejected from a vehicle that crashed into several trees in Berrien County.

The collision happened around 12:45 a.m. on Sunday, May 30, on Bakertown Road, just south of Chamberlain Road, in Bertrand Township.

Berrien County Sheriff’s Deputies arrived to find a 2007 Chevrolet Trailblazer that left the roadway. The driver, Jenni Sanderson, was found unresponsive on the ground near the vehicle. Sanderson was taken to Memorial Hospital in South Bend where she died due to her injuries.

Speed, alcohol and no seat belt usage appear to all be factors for the crash, according to the Berrien County Sheriff’s Office.

This crash remains under investigation by the Berrien County Sheriff’s Office Accident Investigation Unit.
