Suspect in shooting death of Charles Edwards taken into custody

The suspect believed to have shot and killed a man in South Bend, last weekend, has been arrested.

J’Ya Damona McKelry, 21 of Mishawaka, was taken into custody today at CMHU in connection with the death of Charles Edwards, 41.

Edwards was shot outside the Olive Expo convenience store at Olive Street and Elwood Avenue in South Bend early Sunday morning.

McKelry was booked into the St. Joseph County Jail on preliminary suspicion of
Murder and Attempted Murder, as well as an outstanding and unrelated warrant out of
Cook County, Illinois.

Investigators are still seeking a white female and the Chrysler Aspen previously broadcast to the public by Michiana Crime Stoppers.
