Microburst causes significant damage near Magician Lake in Cass County

One of the hardest hit areas, in terms of damage, from Saturday’s storm was Cass County. The National Weather Service says there was extensive damage near Magician Lake.

The Weather Service, in conjunction with Cass County Emergency Managment, has determined a microburst occurred within a line of severe thunderstorms Saturday evening.

Microburst winds of 80 to 90 mph were estimated based on extensive tree damage along this path.

As far as rainfall from Friday through late Sunday, here are some totals: Parts of Goshen had just over 6 inches. Parts of Elkhart had nearly 5. South Bend International Airport reported 6-point-15 inches. Granger had just under 6. Parts of Mishawaka had just under 5 inches of rain.
