Another week, another coastal swimming warning from officials for Lake Michigan beaches

As we’ve reported previously, the waters of Lake Michigan have claimed a number of lives this year, including just offshore of Michiana’s beaches.

Agronomers are warning that a Beach Hazard is in effect for LaPorte and Berrien County from Tuesday evening, July 20, through Wednesday afternoon, July 21.

The National Weather Service says life threatening waves and currents are expected. If you visit the beach you should stay out of the water, as 3 to 5 foot waves are anticipated that could pull swimmers into deeper water.

High waves can also sweep people off piers and break walls, so it’s recommended that you stay off them.

Also, the Indiana Department of Environmental Management has declared an Air Quality Action Day for Tuesday, July 20, in LaPorte County.
