The Goshen Fire Department may take over duties for all of Elkhart Township under a fire territory plan under consideration.

Goshen is already providing some services for the Elkhart Township Volunteer Fire Department.

The city’s Deputy Clerk-Treasurer says township leaders asked if they’d be able to relieve some of their duties, amid the struggle to find enough volunteers.

The Goshen Board of Works has approved up to $25,000 for a study on the financial and tax impact, according to 95.3 MNC’s reporting partners at The Elkhart Truth.

Goshen Mayor’s believes two options will likely emerge from the study: To continue offering services on a contractual basis, or to form a fire territory.
