Indiana Dunes National Park wants ideas, input on improvements

The Indiana Dunes National Park wants your input.

Leaders at the park along Lake Michigan will be hosting two open houses this week to allow the public to share their experiences at the Dunes, and give ideas on what the park can do to enhance the experience.

They’ll discuss topics like concession stands, bike and boat rentals, organized tours, retail sales, and more.

“We’re not looking to add things that you can find in the community,” says Bruce Rowe, the Public Information Office for the park. “We’re not looking to build full restaurants, souvenir stands, hotels, and things like that. We’re just trying to get people’s input as to what sort of services they’re looking for and that would make their experience at Indiana Dunes that much better.”

The first open house will be Thursday from 6 – 8 p.m. at the Portage Lakefront and Riverwalk Pavilion, with the second one on Friday from 12 – 2 p.m. at the West Beach Bath House in Gary.
