Plymouth man charged with murder, arson given 97 year sentence

A Plymouth man charged with murder, arson, and resisting law enforcement has been sentenced to 97 years in prison.

Duane Longacre, 36, was sentenced on Wednesday, July 21, for the murder of Jill McCarty and arson.

It was back in 2019 when prosecutors say Longacre used a machete to kill Jill McCarty then dumped her body in a bathtub and set a fire at the house before trying to escape.

Officers arrested Longacre as he tried to run away.

Longacre admitted that before McCarty’s death that he was on a ten-day meth binge.
