Five people in horse-drawn buggy airlifted to hospital after crash

Five people who were in a horse-drawn buggy were airlifted to a Fort Wayne hospital after they were struck by a Jeep Grand Cherokee.

The collision happened around 10:45 p.m. on Friday, July 23, on State Road 13 south of U.S. 6 in Elkhart County.

The crash occurred when an 18-year-old man from Syracuse rear ended the buggy, which was traveling northbound on SR 13 at the time, according to the Elkhart County Sheriff’s Office.

The five people hurt in the buggy range in age from 8 to 33. They suffered a variety of injuries, include head and neck injuries.
