Gracelawn Cemetery is closed to the public, according to Elkhart City officials.

The cemetery, which is located on Middlebury Street in Elkhart, suffered extensive damage following the recent storms.

City leaders say due to the number of trees that were damaged, and the number of limbs that are down, it’s not safe for visitors and has been closed since last week.

Work continues to clear brush and debris, including at Gracelawn and hope to have it reopened at some point during the week of Aug. 23.
