Heat, humidity on high all this week

There will be lots of heat and humidity across Indiana all week long along with isolated chances of showers and thunderstorms.

“We’re going to see high temperatures for much of this week in the lower 90s. Heat indexes for the next two days will be in the mid to upper 90s,” said Jason Puma, meteorologist with the National Weather Service.

Puma says that means it will feel hotter than the actual temperature. Heat index values could reach around 100 degrees at times.

“Really the theme of this week is hot summer weather with highs in the 90s and high humidity,” said Puma.

There will be chances of afternoon showers and thunderstorms nearly every day this week.

“Monday looks like a dry weather day. But as we get into Tuesday and through the rest of the week, we will have some chances for some afternoon showers and thunderstorms,” said Puma. “If we do get those showers and thunderstorms, those will provide a quick cool down.”

Puma says the National Weather Service preaches these precautions often, but they will be especially important this week.

-Stay hydrated

-Check on people who are particularly susceptible to heat (elderly and young children)

-Wear light and loose-fitting clothing

-Get inside and find air conditioning when you can
