Benton Harbor Area Schools have a balanced budget to start the year

The Benton Harbor Schools are starting their school year with a balanced budget for the first time in 14 years.

Governor Whitmer threatened to close down the high school two years ago over the amount of debt the district was carrying.

Now, Superintendent Andrae Townsel says the district has tightened their financial plan, including only targeting programs with the greatest potential for positive student outcomes.
