House fire on Kelsey Avenue in Elkhart determined to be accidental

(Bill Beck/Elkhart Truth)

Elkhart fire crews have determined the blaze at a home in the 2900 block of Kelsey Avenue was accidental.

Crews were called to the home just before 6:30 p.m. on Saturday, Sep. 4.

While en route, crews could see heavy black smoke in the sky coming from the home.

On arrival, they went to the back of the home and encountered a large exterior fire.

The crew got water on the fire and worked to gain access to the exterior walls and roof void spaces.

Once access was made, it was determined that only trapped smoke was noted and all active fire had been extinguished.

There were no injuries.

Fire crews helped the family gather some personal items and the American Red Cross was contacted to further help them out.
