The man who was struck and killed by a car on State Road 2 on Monday, Sep. 6, has been identified as Joshua Anthony Rahm, 27, of South Bend.

Around 3:10 a.m. on Monday, a 49-year-old man called 911 from his place of employment in New Carlisle, to report that he had hit a guardrail with his car while on the way to work.

The driver decided to continue to his place of employment while his car
was still running, and then called to report the incident.

Officers checked the area that the male driver had given them, SR 2 and Pine Road, and they found the body of a deceased adult male on the other side of the guardrail, lying in the cemetery.

Evidence at the scene indicates the man was walking on State Road 2 and was hit by a vehicle and thrown over the guardrail, where he landed in the cemetery.

The St. Joseph County Fatal Crash Team was activated, per protocol, to assist with the investigation. The driver of the vehicle cooperated with investigators.

The crash remains under investigation, and toxicology results are pending.

An autopsy for Rahm is scheduled for Wednesday.
