Elkhart County Parks looking for help on Volunteer Work Day

(Sam Householder/Elkhart Truth)

Elkhart County Parks are looking for volunteers to lend a hand and join a Volunteer Work Day event this weekend.

On September 25, from 10:00 a.m. until 12:00 p.m., the Parks is hosting two Volunteer Work Days at two different locations:

Boot Lake Nature Preserve:

Help staff collect seeds of native prairie plants. There, staff will guide volunteers on plant identification and teach techniques on collecting seeds for future park projects.

Participants are encouraged to bring work gloves and wear long sleeves for the prairie. Volunteers will meet at the Nature Preserve, located one mile northwest of Elkhart at 51430 C.R. 3.

Baintertown Dam in River Preserve County Park:

Help preserve and protect the park’s ecosystem by removing invasive plants. Volunteers will work with park staff to fight the spread of non-native plants and make room for native plants to grow and flourish.

All equipment will be provided but participants are encouraged to wear gloves and bring loppers or shears. Volunteers will meet at the Baintertown Dam Parking lot, located on C.R. 142 in River Preserve County Park in Goshen.

Registration is required for these events. Click here to sign up.
