Indiana Dunes closes beaches due to orange substance spill into lake

No one is saying just what was spilled in the water at the Indiana Dunes beach, but it is turning the water orange and has closed the beach.

A spokeswoman at the U.S. Steel plant in Portage said yesterday that the plant experienced an ‘upset’ at its wastewater processing facility.

She didn’t say just what was spilling into the lake either.

The Indiana Dunes National Park has closed all its beaches until further notice, and the American Water facility in Portage shut down an intake from the lake.
