Michigan State Police Trooper shot at 9th and Main in Niles

A Michigan State Police trooper was shot during a traffic stop in Niles.

It happened around 10:30 p.m. on Wednesday, Oct. 6, near the intersection of 9th Street and Main Street.

The trooper was shot in the leg and was taken to the hospital for treatment where his condition was stabilized.

Police say the trooper learned the driver had a suspended license. The driver was placed in the patrol car. The trooper then returned to the suspect’s car to talk to a passenger. A struggle ensued and shots were fired.

The passenger is said to be in serious condition.
