Judge’s ruling means a setback for Governor Holcomb’s lawsuit against legislature

What if the Indiana General Assembly wants to call itself into special session to deal with a prolonged emergency declaration by the governor, such as Governor Eric Holcomb’s COVID-19 emergency?

A Marion County Judge says the legislators can do that, finding that the new emergency powers law challenged by the governor is constitutional.

The debate heated up after criticism from conservatives over the statewide mask mandate and other COVID-19 restrictions Holcomb imposed by executive order.

It seems likely that the dispute will eventually go before the State Supreme Court.
