Woman, 19, killed in shooting at Portage and Yukon in South Bend

A woman was killed in a shooting in South Bend.

Police were sent around 10 p.m. to the 1100 block of N. Portage Avenue and the 1000 block of Yukon Street in South Bend regarding “ShotSpotter” activations, indicating multiple gunshots had been fired.

Upon arriving in the neighborhood, officers found several shell casings and two parked vehicles that had been struck by gunfire. Inside one of the parked vehicles officers located a woman in the driver seat suffering apparent gunshot wound injuries. This woman has been identified to be Ashanti Hines, 19, of South Bend.

Officers and paramedics were unable to revive her, and she was pronounced dead at the scene.

The St. Joseph County Metro Homicide Unit was activated and is currently handling the investigation.

Witnesses have been interviewed but there is no suspect information available at this time, and no arrests have been made.

Where is the outrage? Another young woman killed at such a young age. !! The community needs to start teaching young folks the value of life. When a felon is caught, they need to be put away for a LONG time to prevent more killings South bewnd Tribune. Suggestion Make these victims real. Tell their story. Their live history. Success and failures. Dreams and failures. It makes them real and good reading Not just another name
