Cost to lock up inmates tops $240 million in Indiana

In 74 of Indiana’s 92 counties, local governments spent at least $240 million to lock up inmates in their local jails.

That’s according to data the Vera Institute for Justice.

Leaders with that institute tell Indy-Politics that number is probably low because the Institute could not get jail costs data from other counties, including Marion and Elkhart county.

Once again a non story from this place. What is the other side of the story. How much does it cost the people of each county to bear the cost of the crime???? I bet an honest assessment would show that cost to keep the criminals in jail is far outpaced by the cost of their crimes. Every penny that keeps a criminal in jail rather than comforting me or my loved ones is a penny well spent. Also ti might be better for the criminal because he is not DRT.

WHO WHAT WHEN WHERE and WHY.

“Vera Institute for Justice”

Sounds like a typical leftist misnomer, because what they really want is no justice for anyone.

I do agree with them that the costs of incarceration are just too darn high. We need to eliminate the legal hurdles and make the death penalty quick and inexpensive.
