Two children, ages 3 and 5, were killed and an Elkhart woman who was driving the car they were riding in was taken to the hospital with life-threatening injuries after a crash.

Elkhart County Sheriff’s Deputies were called on Friday, Oct. 29, to the area of County Road 3 north of County Road 38.

The preliminary investigation shows the 28-year-old woman was traveling south when the vehicle left the road, struck a utility pole and then hit a tree.

The children who died were in the back seat and were not restrained, according to police.

An 8-year-old child in the front passenger seat was also taken to Elkhart General Hospital with non-life threatening injuries. That child was restrained, police said.

The Elkhart County Crash Investigation Team is still determining factors that led to the collision.

Our hearts broke for the losses of the family, and especially the little girl that survived the horrific crash.
Southside Baptist Church and Ontwa Baptist Church are lifting the family up in prayer for God’s help and comfort during this time.
