Over this past weekend, folks gathered in downtown Elkhart to see a new emergency-disaster service truck.

The new one-of-a-kind, 21ft, locally built vehicle was unveiled during a ribbon-cutting ceremony on Saturday.

The celebration was hosted by the Greater Elkhart Chamber of Commerce and The Salvation Army.

The vehicle will travel to natural disaster and emergency locations to distribute meals and water to first responders.

The vehicle features an interior oven, refrigerator and a freezer.

The Salvation Army though, now needs to find somewhere to house the truck. Officials say they’d like to find a spot in Elkhart that has easy access.
