Former Portage Mayor to appeal bribery, obstruction convictions

The former mayor of Portage is appealing his convictions for soliciting bribes and obstruction.

James Snyder’s appeal comes weeks after he was sentenced to 21 months in prison.

He is due to report to prison in January.

A jury convicted Snyder of taking a $13,000 bribe in exchange for contracts to sell garbage trucks to the city. He used a shell company to hide income from the IRS.

In March, a federal court jury found him guilty of soliciting bribes.
