LaPorte gearing up to increase patrols during the holiday season

The LaPorte Police Department will increase patrols during the holiday season. From now until November 30, officers will be showing zero tolerance for impaired drivers.

Whether it’s alcohol or drugs, officers will be on the look out aggressive driving behaviors.

In every state, it is illegal to drive with a blood alcohol concentration (BAC) of .08 or higher. In Indiana, drivers under 21 with a BAC of .02 or higher are subject to fines and a license suspension for up to 1 year.

Impaired driving includes more than just alcohol. Drugs and even some over-the-counter medications can also cause impairment, and can slow coordination, judgement and reaction times on the road.

Patrols are funded by that National Highway Traffic Safety Administration through an Indiana Criminal Justice grant.
