In recent weeks, the Vibrant Neighborhoods micro-grant program in Elkhart County has provided funding for neighborhood dinners, fun festivals, landscaping and cleanup projects, and kids activities.

One recent session alone at Tolson Center in Elkhart yielded more than eight $500 grants awarded for mealtime gatherings and holiday activities.

The next chance to obtain a grant comes at 6 p.m. on Wednesday, Dec. 8, at the Middlebury Chamber of Commerce on Main Street in Middlebury.

Neighborhood group leaders are encouraged to attend that session to pitch their idea for a chance to leave with the funds needed.

So far this year, more than 20 neighborhoods in Elkhart County have hosted picnics, kids’ activities, and clean-up days with the help of a grant.
