The Better Business Bureau has shopping tips for Cyber Monday

Close up hands with credit card buying online. Online shopping. cyber monday.

The Better Business Bureau wants everyone to have a successful shopping experience on Cyber Monday and have offered the following tips for online shopping:

Beware of false advertising and phony websites. If the price seems too good to be true, it probably is. Especially with the hottest toys & gadgets of the season.

Double check the URL to ensure you are on the website you expect and that the company provides legitimate contact information and customer service numbers. Check them out at www.BBB.org and on bbb.org/scamtracker to see if others have had issues.

Shop with trustworthy sellers on secure sites only. Be wary of businesses you aren’t familiar with. Especially those advertising on social media. Check their BBB Business Profile on www.BBB.org. Only enter your payment information on a secure website. The address should begin with HTTPS:// (not just HTTP://).

Use your credit card. If any shady charges turn up later, you will be able to dispute them through your credit card company. Many other payment methods do not offer the same protections. Never make online purchases with prepaid debit cards or wire money.

Watch out for phishing scams. Look out for unsolicited emails, texts, calls, or letters from places you’ve never heard of or didn’t sign up for alerts.
