A member of the Elkhart County Council passed away on Monday.

Ernestina Wenger, better known as Tina, passed away at University Methodist Hospital in Indianapolis Monday morning at the age of 67. The Goshen resident, born in The Philippines, had served on the Council since 2017 and had also been a teacher in Elkhart and St. Joe Counties for 15 years.

The Goshen News reports that she was re-elected in 2020 to a term set to end in 2024. She was the council liaison for emergency management, affirmative action, solid waste, the county’s Humane Society, and youth services.

A committee of Republican committeemen will select a successor to serve the rest of her term.
