At approximately 9:30 a.m. on Friday, Dec. 31, officers with the U.S. Marshall’s Great Lakes Fugitive Task Force requested help from Indiana State Police SWAT to serve a search warrant on a home in the 1000 block of North Bond Street in North Manchester.

During the execution of that warrant, two individuals were taken into custody.

One of the individuals, Darius Sullivan, 26, from Kankakee, Illinois, had active warrants for First Degree Murder, Attempted Murder, and Aggravated Battery with a Firearm.  The charges stemmed from the murder of Sergeant Marlene Rittmanic and injuries to Officer Tyler Bailey, both of the Bradley Police Department.

Sullivan is currently being held at the Wabash County Jail.

Also arrested at the residence was Daniel Acros, 19, from Kankakee, IL.  He is preliminarily charged with weapon and narcotic charges in Wabash County as a result of the search warrant.

A second suspect in the police-involved shooting surrendered to authorities in Illinois on Friday.

It is tragic what is happening in the African American Community African Americans make up only
13,4 percent of the US population BUT tragically they account for OVER half of the murders ( US justice figures 2019 latest available) I have no answers but this harms so many people. It seems to be a different attitude about the sanctity of life
White alone, percent
 76.3%
Black or African American alone, percent(a)
 13.4%
Murder and nonnegligent manslaughter
11,060 total 2019
5,070 white
5,660 black

My questions are when did this trend begin of so many murders? I was raised in the 1950’s when murder seemed to be very rare We had a great African American Police Chief. With the exception of a few riots in the 1960’s ( Martin Luther Kings killing) we had no school shootings. no car jackings, very very little violent crime What happened and when did this become the norm where Chicago has ( what 600 killings in 2021 alone?)

It’s not the color, it’s the culture. All men are created equal, but not all cultures are.

At the end of the day, this is not something anyone outside of that 13% can fix. We can’t throw money at it, we can’t throw special perks at it, we cannot cure it by rewarding it.

The fix has to come from within the community having the problem. Anything else is just agenda driven window dressing.

That begs the question, what happened to the culture? I see the violent rap videos, the thug life style glorified? Do they not see where this ends up? dead or in prison? Where are the parents, teachers and adults shaping a good culture?

The government has put their thumb on the scales and eliminated two parent households via welfare. They have neutered the ability of teachers to guide these kids, and the teachers themselves are often reinforcing the victim mentality. The adults have already been indoctrinated to blame everyone else. Nothing is their fault.

That community taking responsibility for changing their culture will be difficult and unpleasant, it will involve work and introspection. The solution will sound very harsh, and will feel very mean to a lot of people who think with their heart. There is no political fortitude to make it happen, so I expect the status quo to continue for a long time to come.
