Indiana has passed one and half million confirmed COVID-19 cases, but there is some positive news.
Thursday’s update from the Indiana Department of Health confirmed the milestone, which comes just one week after The Hoosier State surpassed 1.4 million. Nearly 75% of sampled cases in the state are of the omicron variant.
In November Indiana averaged 2,700 new cases per day. In December that grew to nearly 5,200 a day, and it currently sits at an average of 12,579 per day.
But DOH officials say they are seeing signs that suggest the state is approaching it’s omicron peak, with numbers starting to drop this past week in the state’s two largest counties.
Thursday was the 2nd anniversary of the first positive test in the U.S., a man in Washington state.
