The next race for governor of Indiana is still two years away, but some are already eying possible candidates to succeed Governor Holcomb.

Indiana Senator Mike Braun returned to the state capital on Tuesday to discuss issues and meet with old colleagues from his days as a state representative. He also met at length with Governor Holcomb.

“This was my job for three years. April of ’17 was the last time I was here consistently,” Braun said. “I visited a time or two, but staying in touch with the state, I do that all the time. I often speak to the governor.”

The 2024 race was not among the topics of discussion when he met with Holcomb, he said.

“I don’t know if you remember, I term-limited myself to where I would not run for more than one additional Senate term,” Braun added. “For me, it’s a clock. I still feel like I’m in my 40’s and 50’s. I’m not going to do this into the distant future. I’m going to make the decision based on where I can have the most impact.”

Braun said he expects to make a decision on what his next steps will be in the next “eight or nine months.”
