Man arrested, suspected of kidnapping female in South Bend

South Bend Police have arrested a man who they say tried to kidnap a woman.

It was around 9:30 p.m. on Wednesday, Jan. 19, when South Bend Police were called to investigate an assault and kidnapping that occurred at a home in the 500 block of Harris Street.

Investigators say the suspect, Joshua Herbert, allegedly forced the victim into a van at gunpoint.

The victim said she was forced to sit on the floor behind the driver’s seat. She also said she was repeatedly beaten and that Herbert put a gun close to her face and threatened her.

She said after a while, she was forced to get out of the van, then went looking for help.

Herbert was arrested on charges of burglary, burglary while armed, kidnapping and domestic battery.

While an arrest has been made, the investigation is still unfolding, as it occurred in two police jurisdictions.

This incident appears to be isolated to Herbert and the other individual involved.

Anybody with information about this incident is asked to make an anonymous tip through Michiana Crime Stoppers by calling 574-288-STOP.
