Chicago Bears choose a Colt to be their new head coach

The Chicago Bears are hiring Indianapolis Colts Defensive Coordinator Matt Eberflus to be their next Head Coach.

ESPN’s Adam Schefter first reported the hiring just before 11 am Thursday.

Eberflus had been the Colts’ defensive coordinator since 2018. Eberflus’s defenses have finished in the top 10 in scoring three times, including a 9th place finish last season. Both the Bears and Colts missed the playoffs last season.

He joins a Bears team that went 6-11 in 2021 under Matt Nagy. Nagy was fired. The Bears have missed the playoffs in nine of the past 11 seasons.
