A bicycle rider died after being hit by a car around 5:30 a.m. on Friday, Jan. 28, in St. Joseph County.

The crash was on State Road 23, near Redwood Road,  north of Potato Creek State Park.

Richard Dewayne Kedik, 53, of South Bend, was traveling northeast on S.R. 23 on the bicycle when he was hit from behind by a northeast-bound vehicle driven by a 59-year-old Walkerton woman.

Kedik died at the scene of the crash. The driver was not injured and was cooperative.

Impairment did not appear to be a factor. Toxicology results are pending.

The. St. Joseph County Fatal Crash Team was activated to assist with the investigation.
