Man shot during police-involved shooting in Mishawaka has died

The man shot during a police-involved shooting at the Village Green Mobile Home Park in Mishawaka has died.
Police were called, twice, on Monday, Jan. 31, to Pheasant Run in the mobile home park in response to a man threatening others with a firearm.
During the course of the second dispatch, a person later identified as Michael Haas discharged a firearm, and a Mishawaka Police officer returned fire, striking him.
Haas was taken to the hospital and into surgery. Despite the efforts of medical personnel, Haas passed away.
There were no other injuries.
In order to protect the integrity of the investigation, the Mishawaka Police Department requested the South Bend Police Department conduct the investigation.
Investigators with the Violent Crimes Unit interviewed juveniles who were inside the trailer during the shooting, as well as neighbors and responding officers.
Also recovered were multiple items of evidence, including body camera footage.
The South Bend Police Department is continuing to investigate this matter. Upon completion, the results of this investigation will be referred to the St. Joseph County Prosecutor’s Office.
