Jose Benitez Tilley Jr., 19, of Goshen, has been arrested for allegedly killing two people whose bodies were found behind a Papa John’s pizza shop in Elkhart.

Investigators say Haley Smith, 22, and Dustin Carr, 37, were shot on Saturday, Feb. 12.

They worked at the Papa John’s on the 1500 block of Cassopolis Street and the bodies were discovered by another employee on Sunday morning.

According to court documents, Tilley admitted to the murders and also trying to rape Smith after killing her.

A witness told investigators Tilley used to work at Papa John’s and they had issues with him in the past. The witness said the suspect had been at the restaurant, late Saturday night, asking for a job.

Court papers say Tilley left, and returned a short time later.

ABC 57 News reports investigators obtained surveillance footage from the Papa John’s that showed the murders.

Tilley also admitted to stealing Smith’s purse, jewelry from Carr and cash from the office.

Tilley is charged with two counts of murder, and one count of attempted abuse of a corpse.
