A man was arrested on Sunday after allegedly rear-ending his father’s vehicle after his father helped him get out of the snow.

LaPorte County Sheriff’s deputies were called around 2:10 a.m. on Sunday, Feb. 13, to the area of County Road 600 West, south of U.S. 20, to find only the father still at the scene.

The father told officers he had gotten a call from his son, 44-year-old Steven Copner of LaPorte, telling him the vehicle he was driving was stuck in the snow.

He says he went to the area to help his son and once the vehicle was out of the snow, his son left.

The son traveled north on C.R. 600 West and his father eventually passed him and proceeded to slow down.

The son then allegedly crashed into the back of his father’s vehicle.

Deputies caught up with Copner at a nearby service station.

Copner was found to be impaired and was taken to the LaPorte County Jail, according to the LaPorte County Sheriff’s Office.
