Michigan legislature passes bills to limit governor’s emergency powers on restricting guns

Thursday, lawmakers in Michigan passed bills to limit the governor’s emergency powers when it comes to restricting guns.

The bills were a response to Governor Whitmer signing executive orders that placed certain operations on hold, such as pistol-licensing and fingerprinting. WVPE reports that opponents of the legislation say it hamstrings the ability of public officials to respond to future pandemics.

The bill heads to the governor this week.
