Drivers in Goshen are frustrated over trains stopped on tracks

It’s a problem drivers in Goshen have been dealing with for years — trains stopped, on the tracks, for hours on end, blocking major crossings.

Goshen Mayor Jeremy Stutsman tells WSBT his office has been in communication with Norfolk Southern, but they haven’t been responsive.

He’s also complained to the Federal Rail Administration with no sign of follow-through on their end.

A statement from the railroad association suggests there’s no federal statute regarding how long trains may block crossings nor how long trains can be.

Norfolk Southern says goal the goal is to keep trains moving – but sometimes they do have to stop. Stutsman says he’s seen trains blocking traffic from a couple of hours to several days.

Around 1992 A train crew stopped in Granger blocking US 23 near yesterdays restaurant. Drivers watched as the crew exited the train and went to ( was there a Burger King there then?) and ate lunch. All the while blocking IN 23 . I thought back then the news said trains were limited to blocking for 10 minutes a road except for a train emergency

Indiana used to have a law against trains stopping on crossings for more than 10 minutes, but the Indiana Supreme Court ruled it unconstitutional in 2018 because it pre-empted federal regulations.Jul 10, 2020

The railroads have money, the little people do not. The Feds will always choose moneyed interests over the rights of their constituents.

Shut up, take the long way home, and pay your taxes YOU PEASANTS!
