Elkhart and Bristol families are invited to the first annual Parent Connection Expo at Elkhart High School this weekend.

School leaders are hoping to give parents more knowledge about school technologies designed to keep them in the loop about their children’s education.

Breakout sessions are planned to help parents better understand how to use Canvas, Seesaw and PowerSchool programs.

Additional sessions include topics about mental health, literacy, parenting workshops, Elkhart High School’s Schools of Study, Career and Technical Education, and more.

Dozens of booths will line the hallways and provide parents with an opportunity to learn more about everything from kindergarten registration and summer programs to health care initiatives and community events designed to enhance the educational experience of Elkhart students.

The expo goes from 11 a.m. until 2 p.m. on Saturday, March 26, at Elkhart High School.

The following information about the expo was sent to 95.3 MNC:

March 16, 2022 – Elkhart, IN – On Saturday, March 26, 2022, Elkhart and Bristol families are invited to the first annual Parent Connection Expo at Elkhart High School from 11:00am to 2:00pm.

Following feedback from parents over the last two years, Elkhart Community Schools built the expo around the greatest needs of families in the community.

“Throughout the pandemic, it became more important than ever that there is excellent communication and support between school and home,” said Sarita Stevens, Assistant Superintendent of Student Services. “As we planned the expo, we learned that parents wanted to know more about school technologies designed to keep them in the loop of
their children’s education, along with parent strategies for behavior support.”

Thirty-minute breakout sessions are planned to help parents better understand how to use Canvas – ECS’ secondary schools online instructional program, Seesaw – ECS’ elementary online instructional program, and PowerSchool – ECS’ Student Information System.

Additional breakout sessions include topics on mental health, literacy, parenting
workshops, Elkhart High School’s Schools of Study, Career and Technical Education, and more.

In addition to the breakout sessions, 40 booths will line the hallways and provide parents with an opportunity to learn more about everything from kindergarten registration and summer programs to health care initiatives and community events designed to enhance the educational experience of Elkhart students.

“At the end of the day, it’s all about connecting families to the resources they need while answering questions they have about their child’s schooling,” continued Stevens. “Providing our parents with the chance to meet face-to-face and to learn about community services empowers our ability to work together in building a brilliant future for Elkhart.”

The event will include free childcare (ages 5-12), refreshments, and door prizes. Attendees are encouraged to register in advance for a chance to win a 65” Smart TV by visiting https://tinyurl.com/ECS-Parent-Expo-2022.

There is no cost to attend.

Interpreters will be available.
