A former dump side in Elkhart County may be partially removed from the Superfund list soon.

Decades of cleanup have made an impact on the former Himco Dump site on the northwest side of Elkhart.

The Elkhart Truth reports that the EPA plans to remove the soil portion of the Himco site and 47 adjacent properties from the National Priorities List, thanks to cleanup efforts at the 60-acre location. It served as an unlicensed dump between 1960 and 1976,

The EPA will accept comments on the proposed partial deletion through April 21 at Regulations.gov.
