St. Joseph County residents asked to help monitor emergency sirens

St. Joseph County officials are calling on the community to help verify if the emergency sirens are working properly.

WSBT reports two outdoor emergency sirens were reported not working last month during a statewide test, and the county is currently working to replace battery-powered ones with electric ones.

The county will run tests on all 67 sirens this Thursday at 11:30 a.m., and asks the public to listen for them.

Whether you hear or don’t hear sirens this Thursday, you’re asked to call or text Emergency Management to report it.

The number to call is (574) 210-1702.

St. Joseph County officials hope to continue this process every month this year.
