First responders go above and beyond to highlight Autism Acceptance Month

April is Autism Acceptance Month, and first-responders with the Clay Fire Territory are going above and beyond to bring awareness.

Crew members are wearing specially designed duty shirts. Sales of the shirts to crew members totaled around $800 dollars, which was given to the Sonja Ansari Autism Center.

In addition to the shirts, Captain Doug Richards is training firefighters how to recognize, interact, and approach people with Autism.

Clay Fire has placed sensory kits on fire engines to assist first responders with alternative ways to communicate with autism patients to help them remain calm during an emergency.
