Remaining KMart stores in the U.S. about to number only three

(Jon Zimney/95.3 MNC)

There was a time when they were everywhere, but now KMart stores are all but extinct across the U.S.

Attention, KMart shoppers: The former retail giant has another store shutting its doors this week on the east coast, which means they are now down to just 3 locations nationwide. K-Mart, which once held roughly the same position in people’s minds now enjoyed by WalMart, once had more than 2000 stores across the country.

The home of the Blue Light Special was the perfect destination for people from small towns to find a quick meal and buy school supplies while getting an oil change.

KMart was founded in 1962 but filed for bankruptcy in 2002 after finding it difficult to compete with the chains it inspired.
