Indian chief days could be numbered at Anderson High School

The days of the Indian maiden and Indian chief at Anderson High School could be numbered.

A TikTok video of the school’s pipe ceremony at a high school basketball game earlier this year has gone viral.

Anderson schools have used the maiden and the chief for years.

The superintendent says they have always had the blessing of the family of Chief Anderson, for whom the town is named. Other tribes, however, say the ceremony doesn’t honor them. The school’s superintendent says they are reviewing the use of the mascots.
