Michigan reporting season’s first child death from influenza

The first child to die, this season, from influenza has been reported by Michigan health leaders.

The child was from Kalamazoo County and contracted Influenza A/H3.

The Michigan Department of Health and Human Services says there been at least 16 influenza-associated pediatric deaths nationwide this season.

The health agency also reports an increase in flu-like illness and hospitalizations, which they say is unusual for this time of year.

They suggest getting your child immunized with the flu vaccine if you haven’t done so, yet, this season.
