The umpire shortage is a huge problem for youth baseball and softball in Indiana.
The IHSAA and other youth sports organizations primarily blame abuse by unruly parents and fans as the reason.
In LaPorte — the city is enacting a zero tolerance policy on the issue.
According to WSBT, LaPorte’s Parks and Rec is enacting a “three strikes you’re out” policy — which will have coaches and parents suspended one-to-three games for a first offense.
A third offense will result in a lifetime ban — and police could be called to arrest anyone for trespassing for any incidents beyond that.
