A new state law set to go into effect on July 1st will end up barring the Lake County sheriff from carrying a handgun.

Sheriff Oscar Martinez has been indicted on charges of felony resisting law enforcement, as well as reckless driving — accused of speeding 50 miles an hour over the speed limit in his personal Jeep.

He was indicted by a grand jury in January. Under the new permitless carry law passed this year — people under indictment are not allowed to carry a handgun.

Martinez has called the case against him a “witch hunt” by a rival politician in Lake County.

If convicted he’ll lose his job as sheriff.

You never could carry while under indictment. The new law changes nothing. Quit making things up.

Yes you could, if you were law enforcement. The new law removed that loophole.

Oh, my goodness! He was barred from carrying before the change in the law! Felony is a felony. No difference before the law changed. No news here. Let’s see what other BS we can come up with. Lazy effing media strikes again.

No! He was previously barred. The old law had an Exemption that allowed law enforcement to still carry. The new law removed that loophole.

Inform yourself.

The reporting is correct. The old law made law enforcement exempt from carrying. The new law removed that loophole.
