Elkhart woman wakes up to find person trying to break into bedroom

An Elkhart woman awoke to find a person trying to break into her bedroom.
Police were called around 6 a.m. on Sunday, May 15, to the 1000 block of Baker Drive.
The woman said she heard banging on a window, then, the window breaking and a hand reaching into the room.
Police arrived and found the victim’s garage had been entered and a car in the garage had been rummaged through, according to 95.3 MNC’s reporting partners at ABC 57.
Soon after, police found a man walking nearby the victim’s home, and officers determined he was the suspect.
18-year-old Oscar Cortez was taken into custody on preliminary charges of burglary and minor consumption of alcohol.
